SRE And DevOps Engineer

Job Description:

We are looking for a Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) / DevOps Engineer with strong experience in Linux System Administrator and Automation. The candidate should also be excited by technology and who equally comfortable explaining infrastructure, code, configuration management, containers, and schedulers, all while writing Ansible, bash and python applications.

As an SRE Engineer, you must have the ability to analyze project requirements and come up with solutions to design, implement, and automate software build and deployment processes within our GitLab CI/CD platform. This role will work closely with application development and operations teams.

We are looking for an individual that is comfortable with working on a Private Cloud stack hosted on our VMWare cluster. We do not use any public cloud solutions. Our stack includes Linux, Ansible, Docker, Gitlab and VMWare. Candidates should also be capable of automating workloads using a variety of script languages like Ansible and Python.

This role requires someone who is a great problem solver, can troubleshoot configurations, train others to use DevOps tools, and can work with stakeholders to identify requirements.

Duties & Responsabilities:

  • A full understanding of the philosophy of SRE & DevOps.
  • Work with a team to support Development, Delivery and maintenance of a private cloud system run on VMWare.
  • Develop and promote the use of automation through CI & CD pipelines.
  • Develop and promote the use of containers.
  • Research and implemen tbest practices t ?manage our infrastructure as code.
  • Automate and streamline day-to-day business tasks and processes. Explore, test and integrate new tools.
  • Understand all aspects of the technology stack in order to push performance improvements through the system.
  • Work with the software development teams to streamline our build processes and release management via continuous integration and deployment pipelines.
  • Develop automated software delivery practices using open-source software configuration management solutions.
  • Provide training and tooling to support development in a distributed environment.
  • Implement monitoring and logging solutions for different technology stacks or container platforms.
  • Understand containers and how they fit into the SDL.
  • Work with various source control technologies, including their connection to processes/pipelines.
  • Help train and mentor.

Required Education & Skills:

  • Diploma of Technology, Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 7+ year’s experience in building, configuring, deploying, operating and troubleshooting infrastructure and applications.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate complex subjects to a variety of audiences ranging from management to technical staff.
  • Advanced knowledge of Linux and Containers.
  • Strong knowledge in Gitlab.
  • Strong programming and scripting skills in Ansible, Python, Bash.
  • Exceptional troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to multi-task combined with exemplary time management skills.
  • Experience with Apache, Tomcat, Jboss and Postgres. SecOps an asset.
  • Experience deploying new servers.
  • Experience in delivery and maintenance of private cloud systems running on VMWare
  • Experience with system administration technologies such as virtualization, load balancing, DNS, monitoring, log aggregation and observability.

Note: The candidate is going to be working for a client in Canada, with Vancouver business hours (8am to 5pm PST that is 12hs to 21hs Uruguay Time). Once the training finish, the working hours can be more flexible.
